Every growing agency hits the same wall. Sales outruns delivery.
You’re closing accounts your team doesn’t have the hours, or the senior media talent, to run well. At that point you have two familiar options and both are bad: burn out your best people, or quietly under-deliver and hope the client doesn’t notice before renewal.
There’s a third door. It’s how some of the most profitable small agencies in the country operate, and almost none of them talk about it. The overflow desk.
What a white-label desk actually is
A white-label partner runs delivery under your brand. Your name on the deck. Your relationship with the client. Senior buyers and a production team behind it that you don’t carry on payroll.
For over a decade that’s been a quiet core of DCM’s business. “The agency other agencies call” isn’t a tagline we wrote. It’s a description of the calls we get when a campaign is on the line and the agency of record needs firepower it doesn’t have.
The math
A senior media buyer costs $90–140K plus benefits, takes three to six months to hire, and is a fixed cost you carry through every slow quarter.
An overflow desk is a variable cost. It appears when you win the account and disappears if you lose it. Margin on white-label delivery typically runs 30–50% for the agency of record, on revenue you’d otherwise have turned away.
Production works the same way. A cinema-grade shoot needs gear, crew and post talent most sub-20-person agencies can’t justify owning. Renting that capability per project, with your brand on the deliverable, turns “we don’t do video” into a service line overnight.
Three filters for choosing a partner
Senior talent only. If the partner staffs juniors, you’ve outsourced your reputation to a training program.
Radical reporting transparency. You should see the same dollar-denominated reporting the client sees. A partner who reports in vanity metrics will eventually embarrass you.
Contractual invisibility. Clear white-label terms. Your client relationships are never approached.
Why we’re saying this out loud now
We’ve run this desk quietly for years. This quarter we’re opening two to three agency partner slots: media buying, creative production, or both, under your brand.
If your agency is turning down work, or winning work that keeps you up at night, that’s the conversation.
